Engineered Work Systems has a robust training catalog of engineering, quality methods and quality management systems training. Cathryn Girard founded Engineered Work System in 1986, in Rochester Hills, Michigan. It was initially an Industrial Engineering consultancy. Engineered Work Systemsai??i?? first clients were Ford Motor Company, Utica Trim Plant and Lectron Products.. These initial projects were Industrial Engineering projects and primarily focused on time studies, the development of standard cost and the development of Process FMEA for Fordai??i??s newly formed partnership with Mazda. The FMEA project resulted in Engineered Work Systems directing its efforts toward quality and quality systems. Ai??FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) is one the core tool quality methodologies.
Since it was established, Engineered Work Systems has provided on-site training, open enrollment (public) training and consulting services to Ford, GM, Chrysler and the automotive supply base. Key clients and specific consulting services are detailed in the next section.

TrainingAi?? – Engineered Work Systems offers training in three categories;Ai?? Quality Methods training, Quality Management Systems training and Engineering Methods training. Ai??Training courses are offered for delivery on-site, in cluster sessions or in open enrollment sessions. Each training course is supported by a PowerPoint presentation, participantai??i??s manual, activities, case studies and worksheets.Ai?? Instructors are on a contract basis. All instructors used by Engineered Work Systems for training have manufacturing experience. In addition to seminars and workshops, Engineered Work Systems offers Train-the-Trainer sessions for all topics.Ai?? These courses are designed to train an organizationai??i??s personnel on how to deliver Engineered Work Systems courses. The organization is then required to purchase either a license to reproduce material or copies of the printed course material.
a. Ai??Ai??EWS exclusively contracts consultants and trainers with extensive manufacturing experience. These instructors are monitored to ensure that course evaluations and other performance indicators demonstrate a high-level of competency.
b.Ai??Ai?? Training and consulting services are competitively priced. Engineered Work Systems is willing to negotiate pricing based on project factors, such as; the number of consulting days or the number of class offerings.
c.Ai??Ai??Ai?? Engineered Work Systems has been contracted to provide many Quality Management System implementation projects with the project objective of certification. All of these engagements have resulted in a well-defined and documented QMS that conforms to either ISO 9001 or ISO/TS 16949. Engineered Work Systemsai??i?? clients have had successful 3rd Party certification audits that have resulted in certifications. These systems have also demonstrated improvement in key indicators such as; product quality and delivery.
Consulting ai??i?? Engineered Work Systems provides consulting services including:
a.Gap Analysis/Operational Assessment ai??i?? In this activity, Engineered Work Systems consultants assess the ai???current stateai??? of an organizationai??i??s quality system relative to either ISO, ISO/TS or customer-specific requirements to determine the gaps that exist to achieve conformance.
b.Quality Management System Implementation ai??i?? This activity supports, on an ai???as neededai??? basis, the definition, documentation, implementation, assessment and improvement of an organizationai??i??s quality systems.
c.Quality Management Systems Improvement ai??i?? This activity is required when the organizations needs to improve the performance of the key metrics, address specific internal or customer problems, or integrate new customers or requirements into the Quality Management Systems.
d.Supplier Development ai??i?? The activity is requested by organizations when there are problems in their supply base due to poor supplier performance relative to product quality or delivery, as examples. Engineered Work Systems is deployed to the supplier to assess the organization, determine the deficiencies, recommend, and monitor corrective actions. Ai??See attachment B.
AuditingAi?? – Engineered Work Systems provides two types of auditing services; Internal Auditing and 2nd Party Auditing. Ai??Engineered Work System uses auditors on a contractual basis. All auditors have the proper credentials, which are kept on file in the event the client requires references.
- Internal Auditor Services ai??i?? This activity is provided to organizations that do not have adequate internal staff to conduct the required internal audits.Ai?? See attachment C
- 2nd Party Auditing ai??i?? This activity is provided to either to organizations and/or their suppliers in order to assess conformance of the Quality Management System to ISO, ISO/TS, or customer specific requirements.
